What the Rebar Weight Calculator does

This tool gives the weight of reinforcing steel bar (rebar) before you order or schedule it. Choose the bar diameter, enter the length and how many bars you have, and it returns the weight per metre, the weight of one bar, and the total in kilograms and pounds. Add a price per kilo and it also estimates the cost. It is made for contractors, site engineers, estimators and steel buyers working from a bar bending schedule.

The figure is exact for a round steel bar: the cross-section area multiplied by the density of steel, which is the same as the familiar d²/162 rule. Nothing is uploaded and the result updates instantly.

How to use it

  1. Pick the Bar diameter from Ø6 to Ø40, or choose Custom to type your own.
  2. Enter the Bar length and its unit. Rebar is usually 12 metres, the default here.
  3. Set the Number of bars for a bundle or a full order.

Frequently asked questions

How is rebar weight calculated?
Reinforcing bar is a plain round steel bar, so its weight per metre is the cross-section area times the steel density: (π/4 × d²) × 7.85 g/cm³. This is the same as the well-known d²/162 rule, where d is the diameter in millimetres. The tool then multiplies by the bar length and the number of bars.
Which bar diameters are supported?
The standard nominal sizes from Ø6 to Ø40 mm (6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 26, 28, 32, 36, 40), matching TS 708 and EN 10080. You can also pick Custom to enter any diameter.
What length should I use?
Reinforcing bar is usually sold in 12 metre lengths, which is the default. Change the length and unit for cut bars or stock lengths, and set the number of bars to get the total for a bundle.
Does the ribbing add weight?
No. The nominal weight is based on the plain round cross-section of the bar; the ribs redistribute steel rather than add it, so standards define rebar mass from the nominal diameter. A weighed bar can still vary by a small rolling tolerance.
Can I get the price as well?
Yes. Enter a price per kilogram (or per pound) and a currency, and the calculator multiplies it by the total weight. Leave it blank for weight only.
